Morecambe Band Rests After Hectic Christmas
Morecambe Band Rests After Hectic Christmas |

The band members have been having a well deserved rest after the usual 'Chaos before Christmas'. The Junior Band had a busy time, playing in St. Nicholas Arcade in Lancaster on Saturdays and Sundays throughout December. They gave a superb performance at their Christmas concert, held at Lancaster and Morecambe College in conjunction with the Ensemble. The evening was enjoyed by both audience and players alike. Though a little nervous beforehand, John Innes 'played a blinder' with his Euphonium solo Grandfather's Clock - well done John!! The Senior band were very busy December including two concerts at The Ashton Hall in Lancaster, one in commemoration of twenty-five years of service for St. John's Hospice, the other with Lancaster Choral Society. Members of both the Senior band and the Ensemble were to be seen at various locations in the district every weekend, namely Asda, Tesco and Booths, playing a never ending stream of Christmas carols to the shopping public! Many thanks to all who participated, (both playing and collecting) to the supermarkets, and especially to the ever generous public. The culmination of the season's playing was to be heard at the Christmas Concert held at the Platform in Morecambe on the 23rd. The event was a complete sell out, in fact the doors were opened early as so many people were queueing outside! There have been many, many comments about what a great concert it was, what a good selection of music - but the part the audience have been in raptures about wasn't the playing, but when the band 'downed tools' and SANG a verse of 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas' to the audience! What they didn't realise was that the band had only been told of this in the last few minutes of the rehearsal! The band are looking forward to 2007, with the possibility of contesting again early in the year. More to follow...... Once again, the Association wishes to thank all involved, and look forward to your continued support. |
