MORECAMBE BRASS ENSEMBLE. The MBE meets on Tuesday evenings between 8 and 9.30 pm in the bandroom at Birkett's Place just off Thornton Road in Morecambe.
The band exists for the purpose of providing somewhere to play for people not wishing to commit to the higher pressures of playing in a senior band. The membership is wide and varied. It includes some members of the senior band and others who just enjoy having somewhere to play in a reasonably informal and friendly environment. The band welcomes all ages.
Numbers currently stand at about 22 players on a full turnout and we welcome players on any instrument and at just about any ability level above learner. The MBE is a functioning band in it's own right and we perform a number of concerts in the course of a year, church halls, parks etc. Having said that the workload is not heavy but we do expect some level of committment. Occasionally there may be a joint engagement involving the MBE and the senior band or the youth band, we help each other out as and when needed.
The music we play is straight from the brass band repertoire and features marches, hymns, selections, overtures, everything you would expect from a working band.
