Morecambe Youth Band was formed in September 1981 and for over twenty eight years these young people have been giving pleasure to many people around the district. Some of the players in our National Champion (senior) Band started life learning in the Youth Band, others have gone on to study Music at University taking up professional careers in Music.
We practise Tuesday night 6.30 to 7.45 pm. The subs (paid termly) are £10 which helps towards the Insurance on the instruments. We make no charge for the loan of instruments; no charge for Tuition; no charge for Uniforms. We believe all young people should have a chance to learn an instrument and play in a Band without the imposition of high charges which for some does cause a problem.
Throughout the year the Band undertakes concerts at local Churches and plays for Garden Parties, Fetes and Music Festivals.
In 1995 Morecambe Youth Band became the first Arts Group in the country to receive help from the National Lottery. Over the years we have been fortunate to receive further Grants including £5000 from ‘The Awards for All’ Lottery Scheme.
More details about the Band can be obtained from Bernard Vause (Band Secretary) on 01524 410409 or from this web site. |
