Easter Concert
The band performed their now traditional Easter Concert at the Platform on Saturday night, receiving glowing reports from the packed audience. The programme included a number of beautifully played solos - Share My Yoke (Paul Woodhead - Prinipal Cornet), Dmitri (Carol Blaylock - Flugel Horn), The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Jeff Cunningham - Solo Horn). Particularly moving for both band and audience alike was Pie Jesu, a duet showcasing the talents of both Carol Blaylock and Samantha Barbary (Soprano Cornet).
Not usually noted for being a 'solo instrument' Colin Hendra gave his all performing...

North West Regional Championships

Sunday 8th March 2009

Last weekend the band competed, under the musical direction of Andrew Warriner in the Third Section alongside other bands in the North West Regional Championships, held this year in the Winter Gardens, Blackpool. Competition was high, and Morecambe band came a very creditable fifth out of twenty. The Spanish Hall was alive with some very different interpretations of The Once and Future King by Andrew Baker, a piece thoroughly enjoyed by both players and audience alike - though we think Derek Broadbent may be excused from listening to it for some time to...

Second Section Here We Come!!

The Band are delighted to announce that after several fantastic results in recent months we have been promoted to the Second Section - not just in the North West but at National level as well!
This double promotion is an outstanding achievement for Morecambe Brass Band. Our consistent contest performances have fully merited the success the band has now gained. I am expecting a solid year in the new section - with hopefully some success along the way.
Mr. Andrew Warriner - Bandmaster

Sunday 8th February - Preston Guildhall
The Senior Band put in a very creditable performance yesterday against some strong competition, achieving Third Place in the Third Section, performing 'The Once and Future King', a very evocative piece indeed. Sixteen bands competed, one or two having withdrawn - probably due to adverse weather conditions!
Thank you to all those involved - heads down again and all systems go for Blackpool in just three weeks time....
